This film is yet another Christopher Nolan masterpiece. Nolan and his wife, Emma Thomas were inspired by the story of the Dunkirk evacuation when crossing the English Channel. The story is an important part of the British history: the fact that Dunkirk ended in neither annihilation nor surrender is what makes it so remarkable, turning into what is today known as the “Dunkirk spirit”. Nolan decided to create a fictional story surrounding the true story of the Evacuation of Dunkirk. Having taken a mathematical approach to the writing of the screenplay, the story is a triptych, following 3 intertwining perspectives: one week on land, one day on sea and one hour in the air.
